Biography

Troy DeNoa Augborne, a Tuareg Berber and Muskogee artist, investigates cultural diffusion, ethnicity, and identity in Afro-Indigenous, Black, Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC), and Native American communities. A member of the Imush-Char (Warriors of the Blue Veil) Clan People, he was born in California to a traditional family. His work preserves ancestral tales and cultural teachings while contesting dominant narratives.

He is pursuing his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at the Institute of American Indian Arts in New Mexico. Augborne melds painting and illustration with a background in product and packaging design. His work has been shown in exhibitions at the Southwest University of Visual Arts and Balzer Contemporary Edge galleries in New Mexico and has received accolades, most notably 3rd Place recognition at the 2015 American Indian Higher Education Consortium (AIHEC) Art Show. Augborne's commitment to redefine representation for people of color in the art world, and in so doing, expand the conversation on the Afro-Indigenous experience and identity in Indian Country.
